The newly reopened Church Avenue station is officially one of the freshest and most smartly designed transit stations, and MKJ is proud to have been part of Forte/TAP’s team restoration.
The center of the station now houses a brand-new, expertly designed control area that bridges both platforms. Something that sounds simple until you realize it required moving, rebuilding, rewiring, and rethinking nearly everything around it… all while the station stayed open to the public. (A delight. A challenge. A little comedic, honestly.)
Our MKJ crew: Brandon, Malavika, Musa, Stephen, Noah, Vincent, Osman, Lenny, and Ari worked around the clock to deliver a clean, modern, hyper-functional control hub.
Here’s what they installed, integrated, and coaxed into existence:
- New HELP Points
- New CIS customer information screens
- New access nodes
- New cameras, intercoms, and a PA cabinet
- A fully integrated 150+ speaker system across three control areas, both platforms, and two new elevators
- Advanced electrical infrastructure to power everything safely, reliably, and beautifully
And let’s talk about those two new elevators, because adding elevators to an active station is like building a house inside a house.
Everything was in the way of something else that needed to be accessed.
But Brandon and the team pulled it off with MKJ precision and minimal downtime, even while relocating major systems.
It’s the MKJ way: upgrade the old, install the new, keep riders moving, don’t disrupt operations, and make it all look effortless.
This project is classic MKJ: high pressure, high stakes, technically complex, delivered with precision, creativity, and the kind of smart design that only comes from a team that’s been there, done that, and never loses sight of the outcome.
The new control area and elevators are complete and online, and the rest of the station is on track to be wrapped up by Christmas… MKJ’s gift to Brooklyn this holiday season.
