Project Overview
MKJ delivered design-build services for the 14th Street ADA Complex, providing critical accessibility upgrades and modernizing communications, safety, and operational systems at two major Manhattan subway stations.
The project enhanced station accessibility, customer experience, and back-of-house operations while supporting expanded system demands.
The Challenge
Modernize two high-traffic Manhattan subway stations to meet ADA requirements while upgrading aging communications, safety, and operational systems—without disrupting daily service- in just 12 months.
RESULTS & IMPACT
9 ADA elevators placed into service
- 6 elevators at 14 St–6 Ave
- 3 elevators at 14 St–7 Ave
- Delivered within a 12-month timeframe
Complete CCTV modernization
- Full upgrade from analog to IP camera systems
- New, dedicated CCTV cabinets at both stations
Enhanced station infrastructure
- New power plant at 14 St–6 Ave to support expanded systems
- All-new public address speakers for clearer communications
- New control areas for improved monitoring and operations
Improved customer experience
- New customer information signage
- Dedicated back-of-house areas with offices and advanced infrastructure to support station operations
